Sub-Saharan Africa
Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the world’s regions most threatened by climate change. Agricultural activity represents the largest share of value creation in many countries in the region, for example 35% in Kenya compared to <1% in Germany, but agricultural lands are often not used to their full potential. Precise data and information are key to adapting to a changing climate, increasing land productivity and avoiding the unsustainable use of land and resources. LANDMARC is assisting here by researching soil and agricultural management practices in Kenya, and by helping improve data and measurement by supporting soil and carbon measurement projects in Burkina Faso and South Africa.
