Introduction: Sustainable Coffee Agroforestry, Vietnam
How can we make coffee agroforestry more sustainable? In this case study, we aim to increase carbon storage in soils and trees, and decrease emissions from fertilizer use and deforestation, in the coffee landscapes of Vietnam.
The benefits of a combination of soil remediation techniques, bioinoculants, good farming practices, and associated multipurpose trees (i.e. fruits, timber, nitrogen-fixing) will be assessed in several experimental trials per district. Value chain approaches and policies will be explored that facilitate the adoption of improved practices at scale. Finally, landscape approaches will be evaluated to reconcile sustainability at farm and landscape level.
