Realising the European region’s climate ambitions for the land-use sector

On October 24, 2023, LANDMARC team members from  the Stockholm Environment Institute(based in Sweden) held a very successful hybrid workshop with a group experts from the agriculture, forestry and other land-use sector.

This workshop was all about how to realize the European region’s ambition  to encourage the use of more land-based mitigation technologies and practices (LMTs) in agriculture, forestry, and the other land-use sectors, in ways that work for the people, the land, and the planet. The LMTs we discussed included afforestation, reduced tillage, bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS), biochar, and forest management.

LANDMARC team members from the Ukrainian case study were represented at the workshop by Dr. Anatolii Kucher  from the National Scientific Center «Institute for Soil Science and Agrochemistry Research named after O. N. Sokolovsky» (Ukraine, Kharkiv). Anatolii was particularly interested in exploring transnational opportunities and synergies for implementing LMTs in Ukraine as a part of the European system.
