LANDMARC Featured in Forestry Journal

LANDMARC recently featured in one of the world’s oldest forestry journals, Revista Montes (Journal of Forestry). The article described the project’s Spain case study - run by Ambienta – in the context of the LANDMARC project as a whole.

Our Spain case study is exploring biomass accumulation and carbon storage by recent reforestation. It focuses on the Agrarian Degraded Land Reforestation Program in Extremadura, Spain, where abandoned agricultural lands (or those with very poor economic productivity) were reforested between 1993 and 2008. More than 70,000 hectares changed use from agriculture to forestry.

For LANDMARC, a combination of remote sensing (including LIDAR mapping) and field measurements will be used to produce estimates of current forest vegetation and biodiversity indices, and to characterize the entire existing forest mass.

Revista Montes was established in 1868, and is one of the oldest still publishing journals of forestry in the world. The LANDMARC article was published in issue 143. It is currently available in print, and online at this link..
