New Stakeholder Engagement Platforms for Expanding Decarbonization Projects

The end of October brought an exciting experience for one of LANDMARC’s partner organizations - Su-re.co. The team got new engagement opportunities to discuss Indonesia's decarbonization strategy and policies.

Su-re.co was invited to become the panelist at the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) under the Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy (CASE) for Southeast Asia project, organized by GIZ, IESR, and the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia. This platform aims to facilitate high-level international and Indonesian speakers for discussions on the coal exit strategy for Indonesia and the relevant policy framework required to encourage the decarbonization of the system. Dr. Takeshi Takama, the CEO of Su-re.co joined the session called "Beyond Coal Narrative for A Just Energy Transition". Tak highlighted that one of the best alternatives for clean energy resources in Indonesia is biogas due to Indonesia's abundance of biomass. He also mentioned that bottom-up movement and capacity building are critical in sustaining the energy transition to complement the government's supportive policies.

Su-re.co team also lead the dialogue with policymakers, business leaders, experts, communities, and academia discussing Net Zero carbon during the event.

By highlighting the scientific evidence and policy recommendation, the discourse is expected to incorporate research findings on decarbonization into Indonesia's forthcoming Mid and Long-term National Development Plan.

During the first policy dialogue held on the 13th of October, Bappenas along with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources representative spoke about the current decarbonization plan and strategy in multi-sectors, including the development of bioenergy in Indonesia. The government's commitment to mainstream clean energy utilization, especially bioenergy was emphasized followed by a fruitful discussion with the audience.

Stockholm Environmental Institute was also invited to give an overview of the LANDMARC project. Indonesian case study on decarbonization research through compost and biogas was also presented during the event. Moreover, Su-re.co introduced their ongoing and upcoming projects in the sustainability and resilience area. A positive audience response brought many insights into the discussion.

Unlocking the Opportunities

With this new platform for policy dialogue, Su-re.co team hopes to gain more support from stakeholders and escalate future decarbonization projects.
